Thank you very much and I’m very happy to be here. First of all, I want to thank Dean Wang and his distinguished staff and distinguished students for your wonderful hospitality. For the last 2 days, I’ve really been receiving the red carpet treatment. In all means, I experienced what Chinese hospitality means and I’m also very happy to have this opportunity of signing this cooperation agreement. I truly believe that the people of China and the people of Israel have very much in common. And I really think that we should do as much effort as possible to deepen our relationships and deepen our cooperation. We are both very ancient people with very ancient traditions and at the same I also think we’re that we are people with great futures. I think that China definitely is where the future lies and Israel is also where the future lies. Look at the very simple fact that right now most of the Western world is in deep recession, both EU facing the euro crisis and United States are trying to get themselves out of the crisis. At the same time, both Israel and China have maintained a steady growth rate, very different from the recession in the EU and United States. Our economy is booming, and in the last decade, no less than 6 Israeli scientists have won the Nobel price, both in chemistry and in economics. This is only in the last ten years. So Israeli universities and the Israeli people are in the forefront of today’s science. I’m very happy to sign this cooperation agreement. I think the cooperation is a win-win exercise. Everybody can win from it. There are three basic components of the cooperation agreement that we’re going to sign. One is the student exchange, which will allow a few Bar-Ilan students to come here to UIBE to learn for a term. They will get to know more about China, more about the Chinese people, the Chinese legal system and the Chinese economy, and make friends and connections. And similarly, UIBE students will come to Bar-Ilan in the fall semester to study for two and a half months both with Bar-Ilan professors and many other international professors that we bring in for this program. We have brought in professors from the leading universities of the world, such as University of Pennsylvania, University of Columbia, Yale and many other important universities that we have worked with. Of course they will study in classes together with other international students and with Israeli students. And we also have extra-curricular activities, such as to show them around to see part of the country, to see Jerusalem, the Supreme Court, the old city, the holy places, and to see part of the Arabic neighborhoods and so on. Another component is the faculty exchange that will allow the exchange of professors. Once a year, a Bar-Ilan professor would come here to teach a short course, and a UIBE professor would come to Bar-Ilan to teach a short course. And this would contribute to our relationship of equal understanding and connections, maybe even to do research program together. And the third component is the Ph.D. program, where we have proposed the possibility of a joint Ph.D. whereby UIBE Ph.D. students who are able to write their dissertation in English will be supervised by two professors, one from UIBE and one from Bar-Ilan. If he is a UIBE student, he would spend one or two terms in Bar-Ilan. And the other way around, if he is a Bar-Ilan student, he would be in here in UIBE for a term or two. In the end, this is our idea, you will receive a degree from our university and you will receive the degree of UIBE. The students would receive two diplomas---he would have the Ph.D. both from UIBE and from Bar-Ilan. So these are the three components, I think there’s a lot of potential, and if there are other ways of cooperation of course we’re open to think about it. You know one thing would bring another, the idea that everything is possible to have close connections and cooperation of mutually beneficial connection between both our excellent institutions. I wish us all Good Luck for this program!
