对外经济贸易大学林桂军副校长在“WTO法律制度与金融海啸背景下全球化治理研讨会”上演讲

First, on behave of University of International Business and Economics I’d like to extend our warm welcome to Professor John Jackson for the second visit in three years to our university. And also I would like to extend our warm welcome to our guests, Mr. Wang and Professor Zhou and our very good friends Longyue Zhao and the audience to come to our university during a beautiful weather weekend, and also our gratitude to the audience who has shown much enthusiasm about the seminar today. I feel both programs of the seminar are very important. The first one is the talk given by Professor John Jackson. Everyone in UIBE knows and has read about that Professor John Jackson has contributed substantially to reconstruction of GATT-today’s WTO. And right now we are at a crossroad with the global financial crisis and the emerging trade protectionism in many countries and in various forms, not only financial service sector, but also industrial policies and discriminate policy against immigrant labor, and also even in the global warming agenda. So the whole world, the trade system is at the crossroad, and is facing new issue as Professor John Jackson will propose. And we need new global framework governance. But I’m not quite sure about the specific menus how we could govern and how China could govern and how could we govern the United States, east Europe, particularly France. So I think the topic of the presentation today is very interesting and useful for us to understand the changing world. Most of the book-#p#分页标题#e#Sovereignty, WTO and China Changing Fundamentals of International Law-probably provide us with some new insights about the global trade system. And I know as Professor John Jackson has told me that he has been worked with a number of very prominent economists on instructing the global trading system. And I think this work will benefit substantially UIBE students and students of all universities encouraging international level new research and to develop international research network. As long as faculty members have specific research topics, and as long as we can identify the interesting topic, we will encourage the faculty members to form the research team, particularly led by international leaders to conduct the research. And in this aspect, we are beginning to provide financial supports.

And finally, thank you very much for spending the weekend with us. And I wish Professor John Jackson and Mrs. Jackson a pleasant day in China; we would like to make you visit UIBE more regularly. Thank you very much!
